And the most stressful of weeks is over.
I suppose a part of me is relieved, while a larger part is missing the excitement of rushing for the deadlines and being challenged in all aspects to collaborate with each other on different levels in the attempt to create as flawless of a K-Con as possible.
But all over. HKSA Spring 2010, 26th Semi-Annual Karaoke Contest…gone and over.
Perhaps I should start by extending my appreciation to our numerous sponsors, our many service providers, our audiences, our contestants, our judges, and most of all…our officers. (Definitely not intending to sound like a President’s Acknowledgement ><)
Without our sponsors, we would not have been able to provide for the facilities and equipments that enhanced our show each in their own ways. Without the providers of those facilities and equipments, the show couldn’t have been nor would we have had the beautiful supplements of flowers, trophies, booklets, buttons, etc. Without our audiences, the show wouldn’t have been as exciting or our contestants as wholehearted. Without our prized contestants, this show wouldn’t even be at all. Without our judges, there would’ve been no standard, no contest, and no enthusiasm. Thank you for all your support.
And for my fellow HKSA officers…
Throughout the entire journey, from choosing positions, to writing the skits, to carrying out each of our roles, to designing the buttons, to creating each page of our beautiful booklet, to actually putting on the show…I’m sorry if I’ve been negative in any way. I’m sorry if I’ve been unsupportive in any way. I’m sorry if I’ve failed to handle my responsibilities in any way. I’m sorry for deficiency in any aspects.
But also, thank you. Thank you, each and every single one of you, for having been there for each other. Thank you for being there to hold each other up when we were all too exhausted and worn out to stand by ourselves. Thank you for all the physical and emotional support that each one of us needed to make it through the hectic week. Thank you, all of you, for being you. Thank you.
And onto the day of the show.
Semester after semester, we’ve strived to strip our club of the reputation of tardiness, and so preparations started early, each position on time. Flawless. Three hours later, we were ready to begin. First time in the 5 semesters I’ve been in HKSA, we were ready to begin on time. But of course, due to professionalism, we decided to hold back the show time due to some unexpected issues. But I’m proud of us. I’m proud that we have finally succeeded in our goal to begin K-Con on time.
P and VP Welcome. I hope every single one of you sitting or standing in 10 Evans could feel the sincerity of our appreciation and the pride of our club through the speech of our administrative personnel.
Skits. Perhaps our theme for this semester was an ounce more complicated than any we’ve done so far, but we hope that you still walked away from our show with a lesson learned. Misunderstanding. Things in life aren’t always merely as they seem, and each one of us has personal reasons for each action we carry out. We may not always agree, we may not always approve, and we definitely may not always know of each other’s reasons, but we must learn to accept each other’s choices in life. We must learn to understand that we may not always understand, and that somewhere deep inside, we are all simply trying to make it through life happily, selfish or selfless. Understanding.
Contestants. I’m more than positive each one of us walked into the room with someone’s name in our hearts, be it an acquaintance, a friend, or a loved one, each person that sang on the stage were received by the mental and emotional support of someone else in the crowd. They each had their flaws, yet each had their strengths. They entertained us in their unique ways, and they undoubtedly gave a performance that left marks in our hearts. Whether they received your approval or not, whether you understood their reasons for standing on that stage or not, I’m sure they all put forth their best foot to give to us the best of their ability.Thank you, Isaac. Thank you, Sun. Thank you, Viola and Helen. Thank you, William. Thank you, Horace. Thank you, Steven. Thank you, Romi. Thank you, Susan and April. Thank you, Terry. Thank you, Charlie and Mona. Thank you, Man Hei. Thank you, Venus. Thank you, Andrew. Thank you, Jayson and OSY. Thank you, Yafine. And thank you, David and Steven. And congratulations, Yafine, Terry, and Venus.
Judges. Thank you for your time, thank you for your input, then you for your performances, thank you for being our judges. Whether they, in your hearts, were worthy of being judges or not, they all have their experiences, their accomplishments, their valuable opinions, to be considered a worthy contribution and part of our show. Indubitably, we were all blown away by Ashley and Robert’s performances. Their power and their feelings, so wholly conveyed by their song that they must’ve captivated each of our hearts. Here, I will, void of shame, say that each time I hear Robert sing, he can put me on the edge of tears, if not already crying. Then there was Edward’s critique of our finalists, which undeniably opened our eyes as to what aspects of a performer must be paid attention to. Thank you, Ashley. Thank you, Edward. And thank you, Robert.
And so another wonderful experience has come to an end. The 8th and last K-Con of our beloved senior advisor, Joyce Lam, has come to an end. And if you’ve looked over our booklet, you might’ve seen the half page we dedicated to Joyce and Simon. So here in this blog, I want to send with them my love and support for all things to come, for all obstacles they’ll meet, and for every part of themselves they may lose down their paths. Thank you both for the wondrous memories and marks you’ve made in our lives and in HKSA. Thank you for all the times you’ve given us on personal and business (club) levels. Thank you for having been in our lives. Thank you.

And thank you, my fellow officers. We’ve made it through. :] Thank you, my dears. Thank you.
And here’s to everyone, may happiness and understanding be with you, always.
Best regards,
/K.

Hello everybody! It’s the first official event of my life in HKSA because I am the new intern of this semester! Let me bring you back to the previous exciting event of HKSA!
It was our game night last Friday. To see what happened, just take a look at the pictures!

The Poker Tournament attracted many people to the event, but only the champion could get the prize. Though addiction to gambling is not a good thing, coming to the HKSA Game Night was a great way to reduce the stress from everyone’s study!
Besides poker, we played mahjong to celebrate Chinese New Year as well.

Come on! Let’s become millionaires! Playing Monopoly was so much fun, especially with this special Disney x Pixar version!

Although you are not majoring in Architecture, you still could’ve built a unique building with your own hands, or just destroyed it!

Uno was a game requiring quick response and intelligence.

Moving on to the second round of the Poker Tournament, eight people were left and their survival probability was 12.5%!

Finally, our champion got a brand new iPod Touch! Congratulations!

Dear HKSA enthusiasts of this new Spring,
My apologies for the delay of what were supposedly entries for the first three events, but here will be a condensation. :]

Allow me to begin with our WTH Orientation. First and foremost, I must apologize on behalf of HKSA for the mess of a beginning, and for hosting an event on what seemed to be a busy Monday for the many that had to leave early. Upon reviewing my photos of the night, however, I’m convinced by the candid smiles and laughs that it was undoubtedly an enjoyable experience of new friendships, reminiscent snacks, and mind-boggling games.
Perhaps the first game of 心靈相通 wasn’t as challenging as we hoped it would be, what with all those cheating ways.
But here’s props to all of you, with those tricks up your sleeves! But mind you, HKSA will be trickier next time! Then the new element of song in our second game 大電視 was entertaining…when watching those shameless and brazen vary notes of syllables and called them songs! As for our final game of Jeopardy, most of you were probably fighting as hard as you could, attempting to score points by rummaging through your current events and random knowledge! And then…who’d forget SCISSOR SALAD? Congratulations to Angus’s team! :]

That Friday, HKSA had its Hotpot Social at the same venue. Once again, another impressive turn-up, and we hope our food variety and amount were enough to satisfy those taste buds and stomachs craving for hotpot! And trustfully, the interspersed HKSA-relevant slideshows and videos that filled the night interjected the static that may have overwhelmed had we allowed the night to continue with mere hotpot? Then there was the video of HKSA’s interns of last semester, which was rather difficult to hear (thank you, UCB, for allocating funds to covering vandalism of bathroom stalls, meanwhile increasing our fees and lacking in decent utilities!), but still managed to bring laughter to the scene. :]
And so I hope you walked away from this night warmed to the heart (and stomach) knowing how we are as HKSA, how we are as individuals, and how we are as friends. :]

The most recent of events, K-Night, proved to be an anticipated event once again! With enough attendees to fill up four rooms, it was an entertaining night of singing, games, and catching up. As I made my way through each room, the laughter and smiles that lit up each enjoying face were wonders to see. I recall opening the door to a room in which practically everyone was on his/her feet, all hyped up, singing a couple of lines to a song then passing the microphone along. Although I wasn’t a part of this hype, it was nonetheless a joy to see everyone immersed in such a festive and fun moment, laughing, singing, and delighting in his or her night. Albeit short, I trust that everyone had a great time?
And the atmosphere followed as we sat in Jac’s Bistro for dinner. Each table, making a ruckus and loud as hell, fought their best to grab the attention of the attendants. As the dishes made their ways to the corresponding tables, hunger subsided and the night came to an end.
HKSA so good so far?
Best regards,
/K.

.A 4-week winter break and welcome back to Berkeley. 17 weeks to go!
Well, with a new Spring 10 semester comes a new Spring 10 HKSA, and everything kicks off with our Welcome-To-HKSA Orientation. On a Monday night. Yes, we’ve all got school the next day, 8am classes on Tuesdays. So before anything, a million thanks to the bunch who came to support the event! Apologies for the hectic mess with the group assignment but I’m sure eventually you guys got to know your team-mates pretty well! Complimentary refreshments in Hong Kong style set the stage for the night and a series of interactive games and icebreakers followed. Winners went home with, I’d say, the biggest give-away HKSA has ever offered as prizes

Check out the photos below and find out how much fun it was that night! Credits to Karen and Captain for the photos~
.
Just look at the fishballs and soy sauce eggs!
.
Now that’s what I call a crowd. An ORGANIZED crowd.
.
Game #1 - 心靈相通
You’re asked a question about your partner and you’re supposed to know the answer!
.
Come on, I’m sure you know what her chinese name is~
.
Game #2 - 大電視
You describe the phrase shown on the screen, without mentioning it explicitly!
.
That’s how you propose to the girl you love.
.
Do they look like beggars? No, they’re the homeless from People’s Park.
.
Beat it.
.
Teams discussing their bet for the final stage of Game #3 - Jeopardy.
.
The fishballs are pretty good. Seriously.
.
The Winners. And Prizes. (and their free hotpot meal for the next event)
